
Five bison are dead following an early morning collision at Elk Island National Park. Fort Saskatchewan RCMP were called to Elk Island around 4 a.m. on Thursday.Police say three bison were found dead and while two others were wounded. They later died from their injuries.
Dale Kirkland, Superintendent with Parka Canada and Elk Island National Park tells Windspeaker media, traditional protocols were followed.
Two pickup trucks were involved in the collision. Police said the drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene. Kirkland adds, the scene was tragic.
RCMP said speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, and no one in the vehicles was injured.
