The Air Guitar World Championships has crowned this year’s winner, following 3 days of competition, and the new world champion is Canadian!
The 27th annual Olympics of air guitar took place in Finland this year and featured competitors bearing names like such as “Shred Lasso” and “Guitarantula”.
But it all culminated on Friday night when Canada’s Zachary “Ichabod Fame” Knowles was named 2024 Air Guitar World Champion.
Contestants were judged on their performances of 2 songs in 2 separate rounds, each lasting 60 seconds. Props and costumes are allowed — but backup bands and real instruments are forbidden. The jury took into account a contestant’s “originality, ability to be taken over by the music, stage presence, technical merit, artistic impression and ‘airness’.
There was a grand total of between 30 and 40 contestants competing from around the world.
Zachary Knowles walks away with the $500 grand prize and more importantly , bragging rights.
