Edmonton residents can expect to see more electric scooters and bikes in new areas across the city.
The City has expanded the e-scooter and e-bike riding zones into the capitals southwest as well as the northeast corners of the city.
Beginning Aug. 14, the perimeter of the zones will reach further to include the South West to the Anthony Henday freeway as well as portions pf Castledowns and extending East to 50 Street.
According to a city news release, vendors have licenses for public road right-of-way and are able to set their own boundaries within the perimeter. Riders can then use the vendors app to see the boundaries and use the DiscoverYEG map to plan a route and view parking corrals.
The City will now allow vendors to add additional e-scooters and e-bikes to their fleets to service the expansion.
A 24-hour parking time limit has been implemented in hopes of preventing parking clutter by riders at the final destination of their trips that will also help to maintain shared micro-mobility access throughout the city.
Shared e-scooters and e-bikes have seen an increase in usage and have been used over 93,000 hours this season according to city stats.
