Calgary residents got a first look on Monday for the new event centre set to replace the longstanding Scotiabank Saddledome. ‘Scotia Place’ was revealed just before the official announcement and groundbreaking at the building site in the community of Victoria Park.
The new facility will include a community rink, outdoor and indoor plaza’s, the Calgary Flames Team Store and future development opportunities.
The design is influenced by the Indigenous land and people’s in the area. In the press release the City of Calgary said “It brings together Indigenous cultural perspectives with Calgary’s and the region’s natural beauty, reflecting the four elements of nature – fire, ice, land and air,”
Construction on the building is set to begin this week with the estimated opening date in fall of 2027.
