During the Canada Day weekend, The Indigenous Grill participated in The Siksika Nation Fair Pow Wow. Unfortunately, they discovered that one of their tires had been slashed. Part-owner Dave Fayant explained that employees noticed the trailer was tilted, and upon inspection, they saw the cut marks on the tire. Despite the long weekend, they managed to find a replacement tire in Calgary.
Although the Pow Wow committee had contracts stating they were not responsible for any damage incurred at the event, Nugget BullBear, Alexis BullBear, and Cheryl CrowChief organized a blanket dance to raise money for the food truck. They brought the donations to Dave, expressing their regret over the incident and their desire to help, even though it wasn’t their responsibility. They wanted to show appreciation for all that The Indigenous Grill had done for the community.
Fayant says it was touching to him and his crew that so many people, dancers, drummers and attendees would donate to help them out. He says The Indigenous Grill would like to thank Siksika Nation Members, Siksika Nation Public Works, Pow wow travelers, drummers, singers and everyone that contributed to the blanket dance as well as Mark Crowchild from Bheys Bannock and Jackson Lee Prairie Chicken of the Blackfoot Confederacy Drum Group for having the jack and helping to install the new tires.
The Indigenous Grill will be at the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation Pow Wow this weekend and in Enoch next weekend.
