Now that the dust has settled in the Edmonton Oilers loss to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals, the talk now turns to off-season discussions of free agency, trades and the NHL draft.
The Oilers brass have a daunting task ahead of them in assembling an equally successful squad for next season.
The Oilers have 10 unrestricted free agents this summer, including Warren Foegele and Adam Henrique, and two restricted free agents in Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg.
Warren Foegele and Adam Henrique spoke with the media this afternoon and talked about how special it is playing for a team like Edmonton and winning games in a Canadian market.
Both Foegele and Henrique are 20 plus goal scores during the 2023/2024 season which usually comes with a pay increase in player contracts. Both players spoke on how these questions come so soon, while the sting of the loss is still fresh but have aspirations of staying in a blue and orange uniform.
When asked the tough questions about if a player would make a decision to stay on a successful team for less money , it was clear for Foegele, who is in the game to win a championship.
Leon Draisaitl, who still has a year left in his contract has stated ” I love being an Oiler more than anything.”
Only time will tell what the future holds for the Oilers bench with free agency days away, plus the NHL draft looming.
