The Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery invites residents to explore the intriguing aspects of its collection during its second annual Frights and Delights Halloween evening on October 23.
The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will feature spooky displays, a costume contest, door prizes, music, treats, and a shadow puppet make-and-take activity. Attendees can enjoy eerie tunes played on the museum’s player piano, along with refreshments and family-friendly activities.
During the event, staff will showcase unusual objects from the museum’s collection, arranging them into Halloween-themed scenes. This will give visitors a glimpse into the museum’s collections beyond the usual exhibits and allow them to discover some of the more peculiar artifacts preserved in Red Deer’s history.
“We take the usual lighting in our exhibit, which is set to standard museum lighting, and we shake it up—darkening it to create a spooky atmosphere,” said Kathryn Hudepohl, the museum’s public programs manager.
This year’s event will feature two distinct themes, balancing the eerie atmosphere of Halloween with a more light-hearted experience for those who prefer less fright.
“We have a pumpkin side and a shadowy side,” Hudepohl explained, adding, “We’ve included various activities, games, and refreshments, and we really encourage people to come and enjoy time with us.”
The event is open to everyone, with no registration required, and admission is by suggested donation.
