Westglen Elementary School is set to host their 8th annual Pow Wow, marking a milestone as the celebration moves indoors to the Edmonton Expo Centre on April 14. The event will bring together students, families, and community members to celebrate Indigenous culture through dance, song, and tradition in a larger, more accessible space.
Debbie Semeniuk, Lead Organizer of Westglen Elementary School’s Traditional Pow Wow, tells CFWE the move to a larger venue reflects on the event’s growing popularity – an initiative that began with a principal’s passion for sharing Pow Wow culture and traditions with students.
Semenuik hopes students will experience and better understand the beauty of Indigenous Pow Wow culture, with the event aimed at breaking down racism and prejudice.
