Rupertsland Institute is opening doors for Metis apprentices with its Voyageur Trades Program, offering practical training and mentorship to help participants build careers in the skilled trades.
Dylan Turner, Associate Director of Provincial Projects and Initiatives with Rupertsland Institute, tells Raven Radio Network the program aims to reduce barriers and help participants start their careers in the skilled trades.
Turner says the pilot project will include three journeypersons in carpentry, plumbing and electrical. Each mentoring two apprentices at a time, along with six labourers ready to move into apprentice roles as positions open. The goal is to see 24 people move through the program and become sponsored apprentices over the next three years.
