Saddle Lake Cree Nation confirmed Monday that two separate motor vehicle collisions claimed the lives of two community members. Others were injured and are receiving medical care.
In a statement, Chief Dale Steinhauer called it a “deeply painful day” for the Nation.
The Nation also confirmed that one council member is directly impacted by the loss of a daughter.
According to RCMP, Mounties in the St Paul area warned of dangerous and deteriorating highway conditions after the fatal crashes.
First, Highway 652 near Range Road 113, about 14 kilometres west of the town, was closed in the late morning and reopened in the early afternoon.
Then, Highway 29 was closed from Range Road 105 to 110, in the early afternoon.
“Our prayers continue for healing for those injured and strength for their families,” the statement from SLCFN read.
