Edmonton Fire and Rescue Services
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) responded to a large fire in a residential neighbourhood near 25 Avenue and 24 Street Monday evening.
Fireworks were launched from a backyard, and sparks landed on a row of townhomes, setting them on fire EPS said in a news release.
EFRS said two homes were significantly damaged with an estimated $175,000 in damages. No one was injured in the blaze.
Three adult males were charged with arson for recklessly causing damage by fire or explosion.
EFRS also said on social media fire crews were dispatched to 60 fireworks-related complaints throughout the city Monday evening with three fireworks events leading to significant grass fires.
Both the EPS and EFRS are reminding people that fireworks are illegal without an approved fireworks permit.
People caught igniting fireworks can receive fines of up to $10,000 or criminal charges.
