Hope Mission in Edmonton has expanded its Rapid Response Team (RRT) to 24/7 service to provide life-saving care in response to the ongoing opioid crisis.
The expansion ensures immediate intervention for vulnerable community members experiencing drug poisonings.
Since its initial deployment, Hope Missions said the RRT has had a dramatic impact, where there has been an increase in response to drug poisonings by 210%, the fatality rate has dropped by 73%.
“Our chief concern is for the wellbeing of our vulnerable neighbours, and in the midst of the opioid crisis, our Rapid Response Team has saved so many lives,” said Tim Pasma, Senior Director of Programs for Hope Mission in a statement.
“Beyond saving lives, we also know that greater hope is possible for those suffering from addiction. The Rapid Response Team also provides a clearer path into recovery for our vulnerable community members.”
While in existence before, the Rapid Response Team can now function 24 hours a day, 7 days a week thanks to support from the province.
With the province’s support, recovery coaches are also now available to speak to community members about their recovery options after they experience a drug poisoning.
