This week, The National Gathering of Elders wrapped up at the Edmonton Expo on October 2nd.
The National Gathering of Elders is for all Indigenous Elders – First Nations, Metis, and Inuit to show the world their values, words, & their teachings to honor the legacy and their resilience.
The Gathering is about Elders throughout Canada to have inter-social and community links that bind them together as a Nation. The event allowed Elders to mix with like-minded, like-aged individuals and their families, revealing common ground that strengthens the links between them.
It offered an opportunity to interface with youth, which helped mitigate the generation gap, and allowed the younger generations to demonstrate respect, regard, and show honor for their Elders.
CFWE spoke with Chief Rupert Meneen, and he spoke on why the Elders need to have this Experience
CFWE also spoke with Elder Alice Kaquitts, and she expressed how the Gathering made her and other Elders feel.
