If you’re a Led Zeppelin fan in Edmonton, mark your calendar for September 20th, because Kashmir, Canada’s premier Led Zeppelin tribute band, is bringing their legendary sound to Century Casino for a night of unforgettable music.
Founded in 1997 by John Lisi and Dave Cummine, Kashmir has built a reputation for delivering one of the most authentic Zeppelin experiences you can find. With a lineup of seasoned musicians: Josh Palmer (vocals), John Lisi (guitar), Ross Folkersen (keys), Ray Goertzen (bass), and Lou Fontaine (drums), the band channels the spirit and sound of Zeppelin with stunning precision.
I had the chance to chat with Josh Palmer, Kashmir’s lead vocalist, to talk about the band’s journey, his personal connection to the music, and what fans can expect from the upcoming show.
“I watched Kashmir growing up in the prairies,” Josh shared. “They were just absolutely stunning. The best at what they do. It’s the most authentic reproduction and vibe of Led Zeppelin that I’ve ever heard.”
Josh joined the band just before the pandemic hit, stepping into the role of lead singer after the original vocalist retired. With a background in blues and rock, and experience performing with bands signed to the same label as Carly Rae Jepsen and Nickelback, Josh brings passion to the stage.
🎶 More Than a Cover Band
Kashmir isn’t just about imitation, it’s about honoring the soul of Led Zeppelin’s music. Josh explained that the band’s deep understanding of blues and 1950s rock, which heavily influenced Zeppelin, is key to their authenticity. One of the highlights of Kashmir’s performance is their acoustic set, expect spine-tingling renditions of classics like Battle of Evermore, Going to California, and Gallows Pole—a segment Josh describes as “magical.”
🌟 A Night to Remember
Whether you’re a lifelong Zeppelin fan or just discovering their music, Kashmir’s show promises to be a musical escape.
“You leave your problems at the door,” Josh said. “You get engulfed in the music of Led Zeppelin for two one-hour sets and remember how powerful and healing music can be.”
Josh also shared stories from his time on Canadian Idol, where he was a Top 5 finalist in 2005, and reflected on how the experience helped launch his career.
