The City of Edmonton has deactivated its extreme weather response for poor air quality, effective immediately on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025. The decision comes as weather conditions have improved.
The extreme weather response was activated on Aug. 31 after the city’s Air Quality Health Index reached a score of seven or higher for two consecutive days.
The city’s response supplements the work of the Sector Emergency Response group, a collaboration of more than 25 agencies that assist Edmonton’s most vulnerable during adverse weather conditions. The city’s extreme weather response is implemented in accordance with City Policy C620 to ensure the safety of all Edmontonians.
