I had the pleasure of speaking with Amanda from SCARS, an organization working tirelessly to rescue and rehome animals in Northern Alberta. In our 7 minute chat, Amanda shared the urgent challenges SCARS is facing and how the community can help.
🚨 SCARS Is at Capacity
SCARS is currently overwhelmed, receiving 25 intake requests a day, often involving entire litters of puppies or kittens. With foster homes full and resources stretched thin, Amanda emphasized the critical need for:
- Foster homes: especially for animals with unique needs or temperaments.
- Donations or Sponsorships: monetary, supplies (like dog beds and food – new or used).
- Spay and neuter awareness: reducing unwanted litters is key to easing the burden on rescues.
🎉 Upcoming Events
- End of Summer 50/50 raffle
- Adoption Event at Poochie Moochie
- Puppy Yoga
- The Good, The Glad and the Snuggly, Critters & Cocktails Dinner Gala! – Nov 1 – their biggest fundraiser of the year, currently seeking sponsors.
💡 How You Can Help
Even if you can’t adopt or foster, there are many ways to support SCARS:
- Donate supplies (gently used items are welcome!)
- Sponsor a kennel or dog run in someone’s name, a meaningful gift idea for the holidays.
- Share SCARS posts on social media to help spread the word.
