Leduc is hosting the 2025 Alberta 55 Plus Provincial Summer Games August 21-24, 2025. The events will be held in a variety of venues within Leduc.
The 2025 Alberta 55 plus provincial summer games represent the heart of mature, athletic Albertans.
The games began in 1976 when a group of seniors, operating as the Calgary Recreation and Culture Association, introduced a Seniors Games program called 60 plus OLʼLYMPYX for Calgary seniors.
This project was the seed of the idea from which the Alberta Seniors Games were developed.
Since then, it has evolved into the 2025 Alberta 55 plus provincial summer games and is now a qualifying event to the Canada 55 plus summer games to be held in Kamloops B.C in 2026.
The Games are expected to attract over 1,000 competitors, plus spouses and spectators from eight regional zones across Alberta.
Athletes will have a chance to compete in 16 different events including events like track and field, golf, cycling, tennis, card games and crafts and many more!
Darrell spoke with Lea Dashkewytch, President of Alberta 55 plus games and Lacina Barsalou, Chair of the Leduc 2025 55 plus games organizing committee to chat about the importance of the games, what people can look forward to and the excitement that the games are finally here.
