
The City of Edmonton is launching the Blueprint for Violence Prevention Grant, a new funding program to support youth-focused and place-based violence prevention initiatives.
The grant is part of the City’s Blueprint for Violence Prevention and reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to preventing violence by investing in community-led solutions, equity and collaboration.
A total of $1 million will be awarded through one-time grants ranging from $100,000 to $500,000. All projects must be completed within two years of approval a media release said.
Successful projects must demonstrate violence prevention in the near term through strategies that interrupt it, address root causes by reducing risk factors and promoting protective factors.
Priority may be given to collaboratives that partner with grassroots groups and the city said partnership agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) are strongly encouraged and those that demonstrate the need to enhance or scale up an existing evidence-based program/project which supports youth and communities.
Priority will be given to initiatives that focus on youth aged 24 and under, initiative that are place-based and responsive to neighbourhood needs, focus on centre lived experience and community voice, and demonstrate strong partnerships and collaborative approaches.
To be eligible for the Blueprint for Violence Prevention Grant, the applicant is one of the following:
- Non-profit organization registered for at least one year and in good standing with the incorporating body (Alberta Society, Non-profit Private Company, Non-Profit Public Company, Extra-Provincial Non-profit Company).
- Local grassroots group that has a fiscal agent that meets one of the above eligible categories. (If the applicant is awarded funding through this grant program, the fiscal agent must agree to act on the applicant’s behalf to sign a funding agreement with the City and to receive, administer and report on the grant).
- Business Improvement Areas.
Organizations/fiscal agents must be based in Edmonton and serve Edmontonians.
Grant applications are now open until Sept. 24.
