Effective immediately, Strathcona County is asking residents to reduce their water consumption, and limit outdoor water use.
The restriction applies to all Strathcona County residents, including country residential areas, including residents who get their water from truck fills.
The restriction is required due to an emergency repair affecting the main water supply line from EPCOR to Strathcona County.
“Residents can make a big difference by restricting water use,” said Strathcona County Utilities Director Jason Casault in a press release.
“All water conservation measures will help decrease the demand on the water system keeping more water in our reservoirs for essential use.”
Until further notice, residents are asked to reduce or postpone all non-essential water use. Activities include:
- Not watering lawns, trees and gardens
- Taking short five-minute showers
- Not washing vehicles, driveways and house exteriors
- Postponing laundry and dish washing
- Waiting to fill hot tubs, pools or large aquariums
- Turning off taps while shaving and brushing your teeth
- Flushing toilets when necessary
Strathcona County has discontinued the use of drinking water for non-essential work such hydrant flushing, vehicle fleet washing and park watering.
The spray parks at Clover Bar Ranch, Brentwood, Granville, Kinsmen/Westboro and Woodbridge will close during this water restriction.
The RE/MAX spray park in Broadmoor Lake Park and the ArrKann Spray Park in Ardrossan Regional Park will remain open as they use recirculated water.
The restriction is expected to last until EPCOR can complete emergency repairs and restore normal operations.
