Strathcona County has taken a significant step toward addressing food insecurity and promoting community well-being with the launch of Food Finder Strathcona, a new interactive map designed to connect residents with local food resources and information.
The tool maps out a wide range of food-related services, including food banks and pantries, grocery stores, markets, community gardens, cooking classes and more.
Residents can also find food related events, cost saving tips and local stories about experiences of food insecurity.
Food Finder Strathcona was developed by the Food Security Action Table, a partnership formed through the County’s Community Safety and Well-being Strategy.
Members include the Strathcona Food Bank, Alberta Health Services, Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, Sherwood Park Strathcona County Primary Care Network, Boys and Girls Club Strathcona County and Strathcona County.
“Access to nutritious food is a cornerstone of a healthy and thriving community,” said Kesa Shikaze, Director of Family and Community Services in a news release.
“Food Finder Strathcona is a practical, user-friendly tool that helps residents navigate available resources. This work by the Food Security Action Table is a great first step in strengthening our collective response to food insecurity.”
