Highlights from the River Cree Indigenous Night Market – June 21, 2025
I had the absolute honour of emceeing the River Cree Night Market on National Indigenous People’s Day, a vibrant celebration of Indigenous culture, music, art, and entrepreneurship held on Treaty 6 territory at Enoch Cree Nation.
The Saturday lineup featured some of the finest Indigenous musicians from across Alberta, performing for a packed house. But it wasn’t just the music, it was the connection. Artists brought their families, vendors shared stories behind their handmade work, and the entire space felt like community in motion.
There is nothing better than shopping and listening to live music, plus the food trucks were delicious!
Music Features:
Bebe Buckskin – Blues-rock, Métis-Cree, pure force.
Bebe owned the stage with the confidence of someone who’s earned it. Fresh off her residency at the National Music Centre and with a groundbreaking Cree-language cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” Bebe reminded everyone that rock and reclamation go hand in hand.
Nisto McLean – Beaver First Nation | Treaty 8 | Psychedelic folk/blues storyteller
His debut release Los Sin Dios hit like a prayer and a protest at once — haunting, raw, unforgettable. There’s something hypnotic about Nisto’s voice. He doesn’t just perform; he draws you into a soundscape that blends ancestral memory with emotional truth.
Amanda Gendron – Sherwood Park
A songwriter with 300+ songs under her belt. She brought heart, hustle, and an unexpected edge. Amanda’s music lives somewhere between indie and folk-pop, and her songwriting chops show. With tracks like Light and Physical, she’s already out here doing the work and doing it well.
Bobbi Jo Starr – Peerless Trout First Nation | Treaty 8
New single “The Sun is on the Rise” dropped the night of the showcase — and the title couldn’t have been more fitting. Bobbi Jo’s lyrics are rooted in healing and land-based knowledge. She’s a survivor, an advocate, and a voice we need more of on the airwaves.
