Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres
A fire in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 14 at Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres resulted in damage to the facility, temporarily closing the facility.
Poundmaker’s Lodge is known as Canada’s first addictions treatment centre specifically for Indigenous clients. It has been in operation for more than 40 years.
The lodge said in a statement all clients and personnel were safely evacuated without injury.
Staff at the lodge have worked to coordinate the relocation of clients to safe accommodations across various partner recovery homes and treatment centres throughout the region.
Recovery programming continues uninterrupted, with traditional and therapeutic supports being offered at temporary locations.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway. The extent of the structural damage is being assessed, and updates regarding rebuilding efforts will follow in the coming weeks.
