When the puck drops Wednesday night at Rogers Place for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, home ice advantage will take on a whole new meaning.
Rogers collected ice from hometown rinks in communities across Canada where some Oilers players first dreamed of raising the Stanley Cup.
The ice was brought to Rogers Place in Edmonton and combined with the NHL ice surface for Game 1, giving new meaning to home-ice advantage.
“Hockey’s biggest stage should reflect where the game truly begins – in hometown hockey rinks across Canada,” said Terrie Tweddle, Rogers Chief Brand and Communications Officer.
“This Is Our Ice is about rallying communities across the country to celebrate our collective pride in Canada’s game as the Oilers play to bring home the Stanley Cup.”
Rogers collected ice from six hometown rinks across Canada:
- Magna Centre (Newmarket Recreation Complex), Newmarket, ON (Captain Connor McDavid)
- North Shore Winter Club, Vancouver, BC (Evander Kane)
- Harry Howell Twin-Pad Arena, Hamilton, ON (Darnell Nurse)
- Burnaby Winter Club, Burnaby, BC (Ryan Nugent-Hopkins)
- Confederation Arena, Edmonton, AB (Stuart Skinner)
- The Rink, Winnipeg, MB (Calvin Pickard)
“When the puck drops at Rogers Place for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, Canadians across the country can claim this is our ice,” Tweddle said.
