The Edmonton Public Library is launching an album for children called Sing It, Edmonton: Songs from the Neighbourhood – a new album created especially for babies, young children, and their families.
Wayne Jackson, a language artist, says First Nations people have much culture to share with the world through music. “We have our traditional music, the drum, the rattle, traditional forms of songs in our language. It’s great to do this album, it’s another way to introduce our language, to learn it.”
While music has always played a role in early childhood development, this marks the first time the Edmonton public library has collaborated with local artists to produce a professionally recorded, “made-in-Edmonton” album.
