
An Edmonton teacher has been charged with child pornography-related offences by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) Internet Child Exploitation unit.
Eric Matheson-Jones, 47, was arrested on May 14 with the help of the Edmonton Police Service.
Matheson-Jones is charged with accessing, possession, and transmitting child pornography.
At the time of his arrest, Matheson-Jones was employed as an instructor at Norquest College and has also frequently been a substitute teacher at Edmonton Public School Division and Elk Island Public School Division.
He has also worked as a tutor in the Sherwood Park area with Lights On Learning.
Matheson-Jones’ charges are related to online offences and it is unknown at this time if any students were potentially impacted.
The investigation remains ongoing and police are in the process of completing a forensic analysis on computers and electronic devices that were seized from the suspect.
Matheson-Jones was released from custody on a number of court-imposed conditions, and is awaiting his next scheduled court appearance on June 4, 2025.
