The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is seeking the public’s assistance identifying a vehicle and driver after an SUV narrowly missed a police officer last week.
On Wednesday May 7 just after midnight, EPS officers were in the area of 64 Street and 12 Avenue for an unrelated investigation, when an unknown white SUV turned from 66 Street onto 12 Avenue eastbound when EPS said they intentionally drove toward an officer standing next to their police vehicle.
The officer was able to jump out of the way just in time and was not physically injured. The vehicle then continued eastbound on 12 Avenue before heading southbound on 62 Street police said.
EPS Air1 and additional patrol units responded to the area but were unsuccessful in locating the vehicle. The make and model of the SUV are unknown at this time.
“This was a deliberate attempt to harm an on-duty police officer while they were in service of their community, and we are appealing to any witnesses or individuals with active dash camera footage in the area to please come forward,” said Acting Detective Ashleigh Pollock with the EPS Investigative Response Team.
Anyone with information or video footage related to this incident can contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477
