Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating a series of small grass fires discovered on Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, also known as Janvier.
Around noon on April 14th, officers on routine patrol spotted the fires burning near Nokohoo Road and the nearby treeline. Regional Emergency Services and Alberta Forestry responded quickly and managed to put the fires out.
An investigation revealed the fires had been intentionally set. Thanks to witness descriptions, police were able to locate and arrest a 41-year-old man from Chard, Alberta, without incident.
Timothy Herman is now facing one count of arson. He’s been remanded into custody following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on April 23rd.
Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime are asked to contact the Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040, or tip anonymously at Crime Stoppers.
