International Women's Day at Fort Edmonton Park's Indigenous Peoples Experience
Fort Edmonton Park’s Indigenous People’s Experience will mark International Women’s Day with a two-day celebration honoring the strength, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous women. The event will feature cultural performances, storytelling, workshops, and discussions highlighting the vital role of Indigenous women in their communities.
Pam Greene, Cultural Liaison for the Indigenous Peoples Experience at Fort Edmonton Park spoke with 89.3 The Raven on their plans and the name of the event miyomahcihowak iskwēwak ōki which translates in Cree to ‘(They) Women are in good health.
Greene speaks on the vital importance of celebrating International Women’s Day at the Indigenous People’s Experience as a way to amplify women’s voices in equality in supporting and empowering women.
Greene is hopeful that attendees will walk away knowing that contributions made by women are acknowledged, in both Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultures.
