A wanted man in connection with the 2023 West Edmonton Mall shooting, where three people were shot, was arrested in the Northwest Territories, authorites announced Wednesday.
Leron John was arrested, but the Edmonton Police Service did not say how or when. EPS are working with their partners in the territory to execute John’s warrants.
John has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent, reckless discharging of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, and altering the serial number of a firearm.
In December, he was named one of Canada’s most wanted criminals.
Investigators believe that the August 21, 2023 shooting in the West Edmonton Mall parkade was targeted. They say that one group was waiting outside for the other group to leave the mall. Three of the four people in the targeted group had been shot. EPS has not released more details about the attacking group.
The shooting and exchange of gunfire resulted in a lockdown for about two and a half hours.
