A new text message scam has been circulating across Alberta targeting victims with a “speeding ticket” angle. RCMP said the scam has been affecting those all across the province.
The scam entails a victim receiving a text message stating their vehicle was caught going over the speed limit and has a link to pay the fine. Crews are warning anyone who receives the text should not click on the link or make any payments to the website.
The Alberta government and police entities do not issue tickets over text messaging and people should never respond to suspicious text messages or click on any links sent from unknown numbers.
