November 10 – 16 is Metis week with celebrations around the province highlighting Metis culture, dance , song and story.
The Kikino Northern Lights Dancers Hugo Martell and Shelly Collins stopped by the studio to show us The Red River Jig, The Sash Dance and The Broom Dance :
They also chatted in-studio about Metis Week :
You can learn to jig with them every Friday from 6:30 – 8;30 p,m, at the Canadian Native Friendship Centre.
The Kikino Northern Lights Dancers will also be at the Delia Gray gala this Saturday to wrap up Metis Week.
Delia Gray was the first provincial elder for the Métis nation of Alberta (MNA) and was often referred to as the Matriarch of the MNA.
During Métis Week we honour her as we gather for the Delia Gray Gala on November 16 at the Edmonton Expo Centre.
