The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a shooting that took place yesterday evening near a school in northeast Edmonton.
On Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, at approximately 9:53 p.m. Northeast Branch patrol officers responded to multiple reports of gunshots in the area of 162 Avenue and 55 Street. Upon arrival, police determined that a firearm had been discharged and located a bullet lodged in nearby Dr. Donald Massey School. Investigators believe the shooting took place in the intersection of 55 Street and 162 Avenue, near the northwest portion of the school parking lot. No injuries have been reported at this time.
Detectives continue to investigate this incident and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to call police. Residents with dash camera or home security video that was active at 9 p.m. or later on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, are also asked to come forward.

“Currently, we continue to investigate if the shooting was random or targeted,” says Acting Staff Sergeant Marc Goudreau with the Edmonton Police Service Investigative Response Team (IRT). “Nevertheless, when a shooting takes place in a public space, particularly near a school, it is a reminder of the dangers bystanders face.”
“We are thankful to not be reporting on any injuries at this time and remain hopeful residents in the area may have information that helps us find those responsible.”
