Edmonton seniors and those with disabilities have some assistance with this winters Snow removal coming their way via the City of Edmonton.
On October 25, the city revealed the Assisted Snow Removal Program, a two-year pilot program geared to aid seniors and those living with disabilities or mobility issues according to the city.
By assisting people with their snow removal, the overall goal of the program is to reduce risks of slips and falls that are typically the result of uncleared snow and ice.
Low-income seniors, along with persons with disabilities or mobility issues are urged to apply online. The application must also be signed by a health-care provider for verification.
A simplified application will make it easier for those already enrolled in city programs such as the Dedicated Accessible Transit Service or the Assisted Waste Collection Program.
According to the city, those in the program can expect their snow to be removed 24 hours following a snowfall of 2 cm or greater. The program only covers public city property and does not include private driveways or rear pathways.
Residents are reminded that they are still responsible for their own snow removal until their applications have been approved.
