The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigation is looking to speak with a good Samaritan who they believe to have possible information related to a fiery crash that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man.
At approximately 1:40 a.m. on Oct. 3, 2024, a white 1997 Dodge Dakota was traveling northbound on 149 Street approaching Yellowhead Trail. While attempting an eastbound turn, the operator crossed the grassy median and struck a cement barricade, resulting in the vehicle catching fire. An unknown person assisted the driver out of the vehicle before it was completely engulfed in flames.
Upon police arrival, Edmonton Fire Rescue was tending to the burning vehicle, and EMS was treating the man, who was then taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police now believe that there may have been a second person in vehicle at the time of the collision. EPS found and identified the remains of a second 19-year -old male in the vehicle.
MCIS is investigating the collision. Speed and impairment are believed to be factors.
Police are looking to identify the Good Samaritan who assisted the driver out of the vehicle, as well as any other witnesses.
