Beaver Lake Cree Nation announced that it will be building a brand new 40 Million Dollar School that will be the first-ever school in Canada to run on Net-Zero Energy, using solar panels and Geothermal energy, along with having the community Headstart program and a public library.
Beaver Lake Cree Nation Chief Gary Lameman says the newly built K-12 school will allow the children within the community to carry on the traditions and cultures taught within the brand new facility, learning how to tan hides and learning about the traditional medicines.
Chief Lameman speaks on the first of it’s kind Net-Zero functions that will operate the schools energy and heating, as well as educating the children and the community on the geothermal technology that will be utilized in the building.
Chief Lameman goes on to say that the 4,800 square foot school that will span in 51,000 square feet is aimed to be completed in two years which will land in the Fall of 2026.
Chief Lameman adds that a name of the new school will either be decided by the Elders within the community, or letting the children within the K-12 to come up with a new name in a contest.
