The Bonnyville Friendship Centre launched the ‘I Am A Kind Man’ program that aims to foster respect, kindness, and understanding among men, promoting positive roles and behaviors in the community, along with ending violence towards women, girls and gender diverse people.
Trevor Bishop, facilitator for the ‘I Am A Kind Man’ program at the Bonnyville Friendship Centre says the program is a space for men to come together and to gain some knowledge and to be in a space free of judgement to help grow into a better man for the community to help end violence amongst women and gender diverse people.
Bishop adds that even with no one signing up for the event yet within Bonnyville, statistics show from the Ontario Friendship Centre Federation, who started the ‘I Am A Kind Man’ program, have seen a marked reduction domestic violence and an increase in men standing up in scenarios such acts in their community.
Bishop is hopeful that men that plan to attend the program within Bonnyville will walk away with tools and mechanisms to be able to become positive role models within their community.
