Though the water main break hasn’t been fixed yet, Calgary’s Mayor Jyoti Gondek provided some good news Tuesday morning.
Thanks to the continuous work from crews the community of Bowness finally has safe drinking water and Alberta Health Services lifted the boil water advisory Monday night.
Last week, a 78 inch pipe built from layers of steel and concrete burst and flooded a portion of Montgomery, cutting water usage out for Bowness while limiting the rest of the city of their water use.
Gondek spoke to the City early Tuesday morning and said thanks to the Bearspaw Treatment Facility, Bowness residents no longer need to boil their water.
Although progress has been made, Gondek reminded all Calgarians about the outdoor water use ban while ‘highly’ recommending everyone in the city to limit indoor water use. The ‘bare-minimum’ to get the water main fixed continues to be Saturday.
Gondek says the 78 inch pipe had about another 50 years before needed attention, so the issue didn’t stem from dated infrastructure.
Once the repairs are completed, residents will need to follow the water guidelines for a little longer to make sure the pipe is good to go.
