The announcement was made for this years nominees in various categories of the Western Canadian Music Awards.
The WCMA’s celebrate the best of the best in musicians and bands from across the Western Provinces along with the North To N.W.T. and Yukon territory.
Among this years nominees are this years Indigenous Artist of the Year category, with nods going to:
Celeigh Cardinal – AB, FONTINE – MB, Garret T. Willie – BC, Logan Staats – BC, and PIQSIQ – BC.
Outside of the Indigenous category there are still a few notable mentions in the area of Indigenous artists with Alberta/ BC based 2024 Juno winners, Blue Moon Marquee in the Blues category along with Manitoba’s William Prince in both the Breakout Artist column as well as Recording of the Year for “Stand in the Joy.” Prince also joins an Indigenous stacked Roots category alongside Fontine of Manitoba and Alberta’s Celeigh Cardinal.
Alberta’s Miesha and the Spanks will compete against fellow Alberta band Whale and the Wolf for Rock Artist of the Year, while Manitoba’s Don Amero will compete against both The Prairie States, Corb Lund and Nice Horse, all representing Alberta.
The 2024 Western Canadian Music Awards will take place in Saskatoon, SK this year and run from Sep 25-29.
