Traffic disruptions are expected as construction on a major utility upgrade project at Banff National Park’s east gate is underway until May 3, weather permitting.
Both through lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway at the east gates are closed for the duration of construction, and all through traffic will be directed to use one of the lanes typically reserved for the sale of park passes.
This will result in significant delays, Parks Canada warned in a message posted to social media, and Banff National Park is advising visitors and locals to plan ahead and account for extra travel time.
Roam Transit, which has a Canmore-Banff route, says these delays will have minimal, if any impact on their bus services saying that the one through lane on the opposite side of the entrance gate will be sufficient.
Banff National Park is reminding drivers to slow down and be mindful of on-site workers, and to follow the directions of signage, video message boards and traffic flaggers.
