The man who stabbed a woman in the Edmonton City Centre parkade in 2020 will face seven years for manslaughter.
Elliott Tyler McLeod was first charged with second degree murder but has since pleaded guilty to manslaughter in April after taking the life from 33 year old Sherry Lynn Gauthier.
McLeod began talking with Gauthier at 11:30pm on February 12th 2020 and the pair walked through the parkade together. A short time later at 11:38pm McLeod took a knife out of his pocket and stabbed Gauthier in the back.
Gauthier, a mother of 5 made it back to the mall to get help but died from her injuries in hospital.
McLeod was arrested several hours later after attempting to break into Grant MacEwan University. According to the agreed statement of facts, McLeod was abusing methamphetamine for four days leading up to the crime.
