Cree/Metis Actress Tantoo Cardinal & hockey superstar Connor McDavid are among those who were inducted on December 2 into Canada’s Walk of Fame.
Throughout her impressive 50-year career, The Alberta Born Cardinal appeared in more than 130 film, television and animation projects, most recently, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. She was a showstopper in Falls Around Her, her first starring role, and was also known for her roles in Stumptown, Dances With Wolves, and Legends of the Fall.
Cardinal is undoubtedly a trailblazer. She has broken down barriers for Indigenous actors and filmmakers, consistently challenged harmful Indigenous stereotypes, and advocated for the rights of Indigenous peoples and the environment. She received the Governor General’s Award and was also named a member of the Order of Canada.
Connor McDavid is widely regarded as the best player in the world.
During the recently completed 2022-23 NHL season, McDavid has his best NHL season scoring 64 goals and tallying 153 points becoming the first NHL player in over a quarter century to top 150 points in a season. McDavid was drafted first overall by Edmonton in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and after an outstanding rookie season, was named the youngest team captain in NHL history at 19.
Known for his unparalleled speed, skill, and agility on the ice, McDavid has won numerous NHL awards and accolades throughout his career, including the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer (5 times), the Rocket Richard Trophy as the NHL’s top goal scorer, the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player (2 times) and the Ted Lindsay Award as the NHL’s Best Player as voted by NHLPA members (3 times). Connor is very active in the Edmonton community working on numerous charitable initiatives and programs important to he and his Oiler teammates.
McDavid is considered by many to be one of the top players to ever play in the NHL and at the young age of 26, will continue to dominate the league for years to come.
Thirteen Canadian rock bands of the 1970s and ’80s — including Glass Tiger and Loverboy — inducted into the Walk of Fame at a special event in September will also be celebrated.
Additionally, in part of the organization’s milestone year celebrations, another special induction ceremony, “Canada’s Rock of Fame”, will take place on September 28th at Massey Hall. The once-in-a-lifetime event will welcome 13 of the country’s most influential rock music legends from the ‘70s and ‘80s, featuring a night of tributes, live performances, special guests and a reunion of Canadian DJ legends.
The Inductees are April Wine, Chilliwack, Glass Tiger, Lee Aaron, Lighthouse, Loverboy, Max Webster, Michel Pagliaro, Platinum Blonde, PRISM, Rough Trade, The Parachute Club and Trooper.
The 25th anniversary broadcast of Canada’s Walk of Fame will air on Dec. 16 on CTV.
