The Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation will be hosting the inaugural Language Conference at the DoubleTree by Hilton in West Edmonton from November 8th to the 10th.
This conference will help build capacity for First Nation communities that need Language Revitalisation strategies. This conference will engage elders, leaders, cultural and traditional knowledge keepers, and Nakota Language Teachers and Teacher Aids to share knowledge and preserve the language through teachings and connections
Eugene Alexis is the Director of Language for the Alexis Nakota Sioux and mentions this conference is about keeping traditions and practices alive.

DAY ONE ACTIVITIES:
Theme: “I?abi Inohabicin” (Language Revitalization)
- Nakota Chief’s Dinner
- ANSN Royalty Presentation
- Mini Roundance
DAY TWO ACTIVITIES:
Theme: “I?abi Augihnibis” (Keep Our Language)
- Keynote Address: Chief Arvol Looking Horse – 19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe, and Spiritual Leader of the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota Oyate
- Professional Training Workshops / Breakout Sessions
DAY THREE ACTIVITIES:
Theme: “I?abi Inimi Gici Inohabicin” (Living Our Language)
- Elders Panel
- Language Revitalization Circle
- Closing Ceremony & Activities
Alexis hopes this year’s event will serve as a base of what’s to come within the community, he hopes to see Elders, Chiefs, and Youth attend this year and in the future.
