ATC is an organization that provides essential services to 5 First Nations within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB).
Since 2019, ATC has had a yearly event called the cultural festival, with thousands of people visiting the Snye for four days of Cree, Dene and Metis activities. Workshops will be held throughout the weekend to make clothing, crafts, tools and Indigenous cuisine.
Karla Buffalo is the CEO of the Athabasca Tribal Council and said this all came together with the main goal of revitalizing Indigenous culture within the region.
With over 75 workshops available, there’s a great way to learn about the different cultures. In addition to the workshops there will be activities for the elders as well including bingo sessions and a bannock and tea session.
Elena Gould is the Director of Education and Language with the Athabasca Tribal Council and says the Cultural festival is for everyone, Indigenous or non Indigenous.. It’s a great way to learn about the community.
The 2023 Cultural Festival will kick off on September 15th and run until the 17th in the Snye. You can find more details on activities by visiting their website.
