A tornado struck Mountain View County near Didsbury Saturday afternoon, damaging a number of homes.
Environment Canada issued a tornado warning at 1:50 p.m. local time, with meteorologists tracking a severe thunderstorm in Mountain View County that was producing a tornado near Didsbury.
Didsbury RCMP say the twister touched down at 2:33 p.m. at Highway 2 and 581 specifically, and ranged from 1-2 kilometres wide.
Police said 14 homes were damaged by the tornado, including five that were “completely destroyed.”
One woman was trapped in her basement as her home was destroyed above her; Carstairs Fire Department pulled her from the rubble. She suffered minor injuries.
Police say 25 cows and 20 chickens were killed, and one horse needed to be put down.
