Hundreds gathered over the weekend at Métis Crossing for the annual Alberta Métis Fest. It’s a chance for Métis and non-Métis alike to gather and celebrate Métis culture and all the history and traditions that come with it.
The president of the Métis Nation of Alberta, Audrey Poitras, joined CFWE to speak about the festival.
On Saturday, event goers were treated to an all-ages jigging competition, interpretive programs, on-stage showcases, including an Indigenous Fashion Show and performances by the Ivan Flett Memorial Dancers. There was also an artisan market showcasing the work of talented Metis artists and creators from all regions.
Saturday evening was marked by performances from the Métis Child and Family Dancers, as well as Alex Kusturok and JJ Lavallee.
