RCMP are investigating a snowmobile collision that led to the death of a 25-year-old Alberta woman.
At about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of a serious-injury collision involving a snowmobile travelling on Blindman River near the Town of Rimbey, about 125 kilometres southwest of Edmonton
The woman driving was with her spouse and friends on two other snowmobiles when she struck a long and intertwined steel cable extending across the river.
Emergency medical services and fire services from Ponoka County attended before STARS air ambulance transported her to the University of Alberta hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Police have identified the victim as a resident of Bluffton, a hamlet about 12 kilometres north of Rimbey.
RCMP are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and ask anyone with relevant information, including who installed the steel cable across the river, to call the Rimbey detachment at 403-843-2224.
