There’s a new report by the Alberta Office of the Child and Youth advocate saying 60 children died and 9 were seriously injured while in government care from April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025.
Children and youth were between 10 days to 23 years old receiving designated support. And received child intervention services within 2 years of the deaths according to this report released.
Over the 69 children, 45, or 69 per cent, were indigenous. Half had repeated placement disruptions with 1 child having 15 placements between the 12 & 17 years old. Another child had 20 placements.
